Chapter Philanthropy
The Gamma Chi chapter prides itself on balancing its philanthropy program with both fundraising and hands-on service.
Each fall, the Gamma Chi chapter hosts Kappa Kickball, a kickball tournament open to all GW students. Several teams of fraternities and athletic teams face off in an all-day single elimination tournament. All the money we raise from t-shirt sales, Kappa Kookies bake sales, and other fundraisers in collaboration with restaurants and shops goes directly to Reading Is Fundamental. As a chapter, we also value contributing to the philanthropic efforts of other organizations. Over the past year, we have participated in the events of other Greek organizations such as War of the Roses and Derby Days.
Each year, our chapter hosts “Reading Is Key” in the DC area to distribute books to underprivileged children. The mission of this event is to motivate these children to read by working with parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of life. In doing so, we are able to interact with children who need help reading and becoming motivated to make reading a larger part of their lives.
Our chapter collected over 1,500 children’s books. We have hosted a campus wide book drive in which we received books and monetary donations from sisters, other Greek organizations, and various students. Each spring we also spend a day at the Boys & Girls Club in DC where we read and play with some of the children that our book donations go to. We had an amazing time bonding with all the kids and Reading Is Key is an event that every sister looks forward to each year.
